“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” {John 10:10}
A couple of days ago, very early in the morning the Lord woke me up to pray and spend some time with Him. When I was done singing to Him and talking to Him for a little bit, I went back under the covers to continue praying for people and to talk to the Lord. But after awhile, I fell asleep. Twenty minutes later or so I woke up rebuking Satan away from my room. I had such a nightmare. In the dream there was this man who went around murdering people. Wherever I went, there he was, and before you know it he was killing people. It was horrid. The last scene I saw I was visiting friends and there he was again in the friend’s house showing up, as if he was invited there too. This time, I was hoping that my friends who were very much aware of him and how he’s killed people, would end up killing him instead of getting killed. But he had outsmarted them and I’ll never forget the butcher knife dripping with blood as he came walking down the hallway after killing a couple of them and I thought for sure I was going to be next. And yet, he never touched me. I wanted to run out of the house, jump out of the window, something, to get away from the place. When I went inside a room to try to open the window to jump out, there he was following right behind me. Oddly enough I talked to him like I knew him and was not afraid of him. I told him how I wanted to get out of the building and was thinking of jumping out. He looked at the window and helped me open it. Then he was like, “Yeah, you can jump, it’s not that far.” We were on the second floor and it didn’t look that far, so I jumped. As I was wondering how hard it would feel for my feet when they hit the ground, I woke up. I knew right away that Satan was in my room and so I rebuked him and he left. Then I talked to the Lord about my dream and told Him how there was this handsome man in my dream, clean cut, very well mannered and how he went around killing people. The Lord showed me that this was Satan. I said to the Lord, “But Lord, he never touched me. I thought for sure the way he was holding that knife coming towards me that I would be next. But he never did.” The Lord told me, “He’s not allowed to touch you.”
The spirit world is very real. Even though we don’t see it literally, Satan is going around murdering people in the spirit world. The Lord likened Satan as a thief who comes to kill, steal, and destroy. {John 10:10} He is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. Apostle Peter told us to:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. {1 Peter 5:8}
Everyday more and more people are succumbing to Satan enticements, snares, and deviousness. Like in my dream, Satan will come as a friend, even someone you think you can trust. There is no protection anywhere except through Jesus Christ. We cannot hide in the spirit world except through the Lord. In the spirit world you can’t build a house where you can run to and hide from Satan. Only through Jesus Christ is where our safety lies. He is our home. He is our hiding place. The Lord told us He is the door to the sheepfold and before anyone can get to the sheep they must go through the door. {John 10:7} If we are His sheep and we belong to Him it doesn’t matter if Satan’s breathing down our neck and right behind us, he can’t touch us. Unless the Lord allows him to, he can’t.
The only way to make sure we belong to the Lord is to talk to Him all the time and make Him our Shepherd. We need to ask Him to come and be our protector. We need to be repenting all the time from any sin and clearing ourselves always with the Lord, making sure we are right with Him. We need to always ask Jesus to cleanse us from all of our unrighteousness. Sin makes us vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. He will attack in the spirit. He attacks through our thoughts and our hearts. He will lie to us so that his lies sound like truth and we end up believing them. The only way to be aware of these things is through talking to the Lord and the study of His word. We need to talk to the Lord all the time so that we can become aware of Satan’s devices and his evil intentions against us. The story of the fall of Adam and Eve showed us how subtle he can get. But if we have the Lord all the time with us because we are always talking to Him, and He has filled us with His Holy Spirit so that we are aware of Him, then we’re going to be all right. So that even when we fall the Lord will lift us up because we are assured of His love for us because we are always talking to Him.
It is so important to belong to the Lord. It is so important to make God our first goal in the morning, noon and night, always talking to Him. The Lord said to abide in Him because without Him we can do nothing. We have no power on our own. The spirit world doesn’t ever rest. Satan is relentless in his pursuit to destroy people. Let’s not become one of his victims. The only way to be kept safe is to stick to the Lord all the time, always calling on His name, always staying in contact with Him.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” {John 15:4-7}
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” {John 10:11}
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” {Psalm 46:1}
