Got insecurities? Welcome to the club. I’ve got tons of those. How do I keep them from debilitating me? I talk to the Lord about them. That’s the beauty of Jesus Christ, there’s nothing He doesn’t know about us already and there is nothing He cannot help us with. So with that knowledge, what’s the point of hiding anything from Him? The only one who loves us so much that He was willing to give up His life for us at Calvary is the Lord. What is there then that He will not help us with? He will definitely help us. All we need to do is just talk to Him about it.
Sometimes I think we get this idea that talking to the Lord about our insecurities and our fears is not a topic we should be going to Him about. We think the only things we’re allowed to talk to Him about are our physical needs – food, clothing, shelter, physical healing, and then the needs of people. As a matter of fact, I know people who don’t think we should bother the Lord for physical healing. I remember being told, “Oh, Sheila, don’t bother God about that. He has enough to worry about.”
The thing is, God doesn’t worry about anything at all. We do. Because God can do anything, there is no need for Him to worry. All He has to do is think about what He desires and it comes to pass. The Bible states, He gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that don’t yet exist. {Romans 4:17} All He needs to do is think and speak whatever He wants and it’s there. He merely spoke the world into existence, and made Adam from the dust of the ground and Eve from Adam’s rib. What’s there that’s hard for Him to do? He said in His word,
“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” {Jeremiah 32:27}
The answer is nothing. Nothing is too hard for the Lord. So no, nothing worries God at all. His work is already done. He already knows the ending of everything. Everything we see here is just being played out in the present realm of our world, but as far as God is concerned everything is already done. So nothing worries God. But we worry. We worry a lot. No wonder the Lord told us,
“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” {Matthew 6:25}
God’s utmost desire is for us to be made whole and to love Him back. His desire is for us to come to the full knowledge of Him and His love for us. Being made whole will bring us to love Him. So, His desire is for us to be made well. When we are made well, we won’t be so worried about ourselves so much. We won’t be thinking about ourselves all the time. We will be thinking about Him and being a part of Him – being one with Him. His thoughts and His desires, His burdens and His dreams are going to be ours too. It’s a marriage that He’s looking for from us – a partnership. He wants us to be one with Him in our spirit. He wants us to belong to Him forever and ever.
But how does this happen? By talking to Him all the time about our insecurities and about every little thing that bothers us and debilitates us in this life. He wants us to talk to Him about all our fears. Because how can He possibly heal us if we’re not communicating with Him about our need to be made well? Telling the Lord in general to heal us is too vague. We tell the Lord, “Lord please heal me. Please make me well in my heart, my mind, my soul and my spirit.” But that is not enough. That is good that you want to be made well, but how? We need to learn to bring everything to Him and tell Him exactly what we want and need for Him to do. For example if we want to be made well in our hearts, then we have to come to Him with whatever that is bothering us in our hearts. We can’t just say, “Wave your hand Lord and make all these fears and these hurts go away.” That would be great and awesome, and He can very well do that too. But what if He takes the hurt and fears away but the memory of that hurt is still inside of you? The next time Satan comes to attack you with the memory of it, what are you going to do? How many times is the Lord going to wave His hand over your hurt and your fears? It’s going to have to be all the time. When the Lord does something for us, like healing us, He does it well. He just doesn’t treat our symptoms. He also treats the cause of it, so that it will not have the power to hurt us again.
That’s why the best way the Lord can bring healing in us for good is for us to talk Him about our hurts. Be specific, like you would with a friend. Often the Lord wants to hear from you what exactly caused your heart to break or to weep or to be unhappy. Something caused it and He wants to hear about it. Why? Because He wants you to get to the root of the reason why and help you overcome it and be cleared of it. I mean, the Lord surely knows what caused it, but so many times we need to know and to see the reason ourselves. Sometimes in the process of searching with the Lord and talking to Him with our hurts and fears, we can actually end up receiving healing simply because He gives us a new understanding of what really happened. Often times, when we talk to the Lord about our fears and insecurities He makes us see things we have not seen before. It could end up freeing us completely without the painful process that we feared in the beginning. So many times I’ve gone to the Lord about something I was afraid of or worried about, and I got over it before I was even finished talking to Him about it. In the process of talking to the Lord about it, He responds to me in my spirit and I receive His version of truth and everything is okay again. He brings me to understand the truth – His truth, instead of my own version, and it brings me healing and deliverance. Remember, the truth will set us free. All it takes is coming to Lord about what’s hurting us and talking to Him about it.
Not only will we be made well from whatever it is we’re afraid of, we will also gain the experience and power for facing Satan with our insecurities the next time He comes around and reminds us of them. We need to talk to the Lord about everything and commit to Him our way of thinking and interpreting things, so that He can turn around and help us in our spirit to respond to every hurt, every trial, and every challenge we might come up against in the proper way. His way.
We might have fears and insecurities in this life but they don’t have to overpower us or debilitate us. We can overcome them by talking to the Lord and waiting on His presence to speak to us in our hearts and in our spirit. He will be there to respond to us if we learn to wait on Him. He will not fail us. He is faithful to those that are truly seeking Him for their healing and for deliverance.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” {Isaiah 40:31}
The Lord’s utmost desire is to see us well and happy. That’s why He came to this world to die for our sins. Sin has made us unhappy. The powers of the darkness of Satan and his angels have made this world very unhappy. We can go on and on about what causes us to be unhappy, but God has said to us,
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” {John 10:10}
Our insecurities is the tool the enemy uses against us to lose out on God’s promises and blessings. Time and time again the devil has caused us to worry and to fret because of our insecurities and our fears. Don’t let Satan use your insecurities against you anymore, instead use them to bring power into your life by talking to the Lord about them. He can turn around and use our insecurities for His glory. Make your insecurities propel you to a new level of understanding with the Lord by always bringing them to Him and talking to Him about them. It doesn’t matter what they are. Maybe you feel fearful of what people may think about you, or feel unattractive and fear you will not end up with anyone that will come to love you, or even accept you for who you are. Maybe you feel not as smart or confident as you wish to be, or you have a past that’s eating you up and causing you to make the same mistakes again and again. It doesn’t matter what it is, bring them all to the Lord and talk to Him about it. Nothing is too hard with the Lord. He came for this very reason to save us and bring us to life everlasting with Him. There is nothing He will not do for us if we just learn to talk to the Lord about everything and believe in Him and in His love for us.
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” {Romans 8:32}
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” {Mark 11:24}
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” {Matthew 7:7}
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” {Philippians 4:13}
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank You with all of my heart for Your wonderful grace and mercy upon my soul. I thank You for giving Your life away at the cross at Calvary so that I can be set free from all the darkness of the powers of the principalities of this world. I thank You that You have overcome the cross so that today I can overcome as well because of the wonderful and precious blood You shed for me at the cross. Thank You with all of my heart for You, Jesus. I love You, Lord.
Father, I pray in Your most wonderful name, that You will help us today to come to You and be honest and open with You about our fears and insecurities. Because the enemy uses them to make us unhappy and to cause us to look at ourselves instead of looking at You. We can end up forfeiting the wonderful blessings You have in store for us. Please, Savior, help us to overcome this. Help us to look at You and the great potential of what we can become if we place ourselves in Your care before Your throne. I know Lord that we will overcome Satan and his wicked devices against us if our eyes are set on You and not upon ourselves. Help us to do that Lord Jesus today and each everyday. Help us Father to keep our eyes on You. I pray in Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
