And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed. After that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. {Acts 28:24-27}
It is a scary thing that we could end up not receiving the gifts of God simply because we do not believe. We could end up forfeiting our healing according to the word of God if we don’t believe Him. Jesus tells us in His word:
If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. {Mark 9:23}
Such a simple word: Believe. Yet to some of us it can become an albatross, something that can end up mocking us and debilitating us. It could mean the difference between life and death, joy and sadness, or peace and turmoil if we don’t do it. It’s so crucial to have faith all the time to believe the Lord. The question is, how do you make yourself believe something if you don’t feel it in your heart and you don’t believe it? Especially when you need a miracle in your life and you’re not receiving it? I’ve found again and again the only way to overcome this insurmountable mountain of unbelief is to talk to Jesus Christ. That’s it in a nutshell. The Bible states He is the author and the finisher of our faith. If we look to Him and talk to Him, there is nothing that He will not do for us.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. {Hebrews 12:2}
Jesus is our answer to anything we will ever need in this life. Jesus can give us faith when we need it. Remember the poor man who brought his lunatic son to the disciples to get him healed? The disciples tried to cast the devil out of the son but they couldn’t do it. In came Jesus asking them what was going on, and the Bible tells us that the father went down on his knees and begged the Lord to heal his son. The Lord told him, “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” {Mark 9:23} The father then cried out to the Lord and said to Him, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” {Mark 9:24} The key thing is to believe in the Lord and in what He can do, not in what we can do. Remember we can do nothing without Him. That’s what the Lord said to us. He told us, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” {John 15:5} The father was trying to believe the Lord but there was something in him that was doubting and hindering him from believing completely. That’s why he cried out, “Lord, help mine unbelief!” When we find our belief being hindered we need to do the same thing: ask the Lord for help.
With the Lord we can do anything. If we just look to Him and believe in Him, anything is possible. On our own we will fail. That’s why He came to die at the cross in the first place, because we can’t do it. We can’t save our own selves for the life of us. Adam and Eve couldn’t keep themselves perfect and holy at the Garden of Eden either. Imagine that. They were already in a perfect place where there was no sin, and yet one slimy talk from Satan and they fell. How much more now are we liable to fall, with devils roaming around the entire world tempting us everywhere? Can we possibly succeed and become holy and righteous before God without Jesus Christ? Can we possibly believe the prophets and God’s word on our own so we can receive our miracles? I don’t think so. We need the Lord. Otherwise Jesus wouldn’t have come down and died for us. Otherwise the scripture wouldn’t have said,
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.” {2 Corinthians 2:14}
Don’t think for a second that it’s us who brought ourselves to the wonderful knowledge of God. God is the one that does all things good in our lives. He gets all the glory and praise. God Himself drew us to Him. There is nothing good in us that can merit God’s salvation. It’s not in us to want God. Apostle Paul tells us that our flesh fights against God. {Romans 8:7} That’s why it is imperative to keep looking to Jesus Christ – the author and the finisher of our faith. It’s important to talk to Him.
If you’re having a hard time believing, ask the Lord to help you. Spend some time with Him, seek His face, and learn who He is and what it is like to believe in Him. Don’t be afraid to talk to Him about your unbelief. Remember He loves you so much, He wants us to come to Him for all things. If we come to Him and aren’t afraid to talk to Him, we will come to see and will come to know that with Him we can find our help. In Him we can find our faith, and in Him we can find that indeed all things are possible.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. {Hebrews 11:6}
Prayer
Lord Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith, I thank You with all of my heart for Your truth. I thank You that with You there is no lie. With You all things are possible.
Lord, we may not have what it takes to believe for a miracle to manifest in our lives. For many of us Satan has put such a spell on us that we can’t help but believe a lie. We struggle to believe and believe, but can’t seem to receive. How can we even overcome in these last days without believing in You? Jesus, we need to believe in You! You are our only way to salvation. Please Lord, give us more faith in You. Help us to believe in You more and more as the hour approaches for Your return, for without You we can do nothing. I ask all of these things in Your most powerful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
