How To Be Filled With The Spirit Of God – Part 3

{Podcast Version}

Continued from part 2…

Now say you have repented, gotten baptized, and have even asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior and to enter into your heart; yet you still do not have the Holy Ghost, now what? The next thing to do is to ask Him. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. Commune with Him, talk to Him, and make Him your friend. That is my advice. Everyday go to Him and talk to Him and love Him. You’ve got to make this a habit, something that is a must, not just when you feel like it. Whether you feel like it or not, do it. This is how to love God and make Him come to you: consistency, faithfulness, and perseverance. He loves this. When He sees you are serious about wanting Him He will surely come to you.

Now, when I say “Love Him” I mean, worship Him, praise Him, make Him your friend that you appreciate and love very much. It might not be easy at first, especially when you don’t have the Spirit of God. It is a challenge to a lot of people to talk to someone they can’t see or feel. But do it anyway because you are doing this by faith not by sight. Remember what Apostle Paul said, “Without faith it is impossible to please God: for he that comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” {Hebrews 11:6} This is how God will reward you, if you come to Him consistently by talking to Him.

Even though your sins have been washed away you probably, most likely, will still struggle with sin, especially if you haven’t overcome them. Without the Spirit of God you are still walking by your own strength and understanding. I will tell you right now, there is such a difference when the Spirit of God comes to you. You will be changed. You will see sin differently than how you see it now. You will become sensitive to sin that this will cause you to easily repent and come to the Lord to be forgiven. Not only that, with the Spirit of God you will learn how to overcome them. You will have the power to call on God and cast out the demons in your life that have been plaguing you. He will be there to help you cast them out if you make Him your friend. Without the Spirit of God and making Him your friend, you are powerless.

Another way to receive the Spirit of God is to have someone pray over you who has the Spirit of God and is living the life Jesus Christ wants them to live. If they are obedient to His will and are fully committed to Him, they have the power of God to pray for you. God will honor their prayers. This is exactly what happened to the people in Samaria who believed on Philip when he preached to them about Jesus Christ. Apostles Peter and John came to them and prayed over the people that they will be baptized with the Spirit of God. Apostle Paul also prayed over the twelve followers of John the Baptist and they got baptized with the Spirit of God. So find someone that can pray over you to receive His Spirit. But make sure first this is what the Lord wants for you to do. Talk to Him about it and if you feel in your heart this is the route He wants you to take, ask Him next to show you where to go and He will lead you.

It might take some time to get this prayer answered, but if you continue to talk to the Lord, He is faithful to make this come to pass. Don’t get discouraged. If you have enough faith and you’re loving Him and worshipping Him everyday in prayer you can have the Holy Ghost yourself without anyone else’s help. I have heard of people getting the Spirit of God without anybody laying their hands on them. I remember when a missionary from Australia one day came to our church when I was in high school, and he shared his experience of getting the Holy Ghost one night. He said he went to a revival and heard about the Holy Ghost and how we can receive it. He went home, knelt before the window and asked Jesus Christ in his life and for Him to give him the Spirit of God. He had so much faith in his heart, he was only 13 years old, and he said he looked up in the sky and saw a ball of light coming towards him. He said when the light hit him he fell on the floor and started praising God and speaking in tongues. He said he was there for hours.

My own brother got the Holy Ghost without anybody praying over him. He woke up one night while we were having our family devotion (evening prayer) and started speaking in tongues. My husband was in church praying beside me while we were still dating and he started speaking in tongues. No one was praying over him. (On a side note though, I had fasted and prayed for him to receive the Spirit of God and was actually asking for this very sign if he really was the one from the Lord as He had been telling me He had chosen for me to marry.)

Come to think of it, actually when I was nine years old and got the Holy Ghost no one was praying over me. I was just at the altar praying to the Lord and talking to Him when I started feeling His Spirit and started crying because I was feeling His love. Soon I started prophesying, praising Him and worshipping Him out loud. I started stammering and speaking in tongues.

So, you can have the Spirit of God if you desire Him. Anyone who wants God can have His Holy Spirit. Remember what apostle Peter said, “As many as the Lord God shall call.” You might say, “But how do I know that God is calling me?” Do you desire God? Then God is calling you. He is calling anyone who desires Him. On your own you wouldn’t desire God. We are flesh. We are sinners. The Bible states that the things of the flesh are enmity (or enemy) with God. So there is no way you are desiring God on your own. God is definitely calling you to come to Him. Your only job now is to respond to His calling and talk to Him so He can show you next what to do. So talk to Him and make Him your friend. Be open and honest with him about everything, especially about your struggle with sin. Do not be afraid. He loves you very much and desires to give Himself to you. Always make yourself known to Him. Do not hide anything from Him. This is your road to having God more and to having His Holy Spirit.

You can say this prayer with me, “Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your great love for me. I thank You for giving Your life at the cross at Calvary so that I can have You today and be saved. Lord Jesus, I love You and I desire You in my life. Without You I am lost and cannot make it to be saved until the end. I need You to overcome all my sins. I am nothing without You, Jesus. Please come fill me with Your Spirit today. Forgive my sins and take all my unrighteousness away. I pray, Jesus, fill me. I thank You, Father, for hearing my prayer. I thank You for giving me the Holy Ghost today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Then just worship Him, love Him and thank Him for all His goodness and His mercies. Keep loving Him and keep talking to Him. Keep talking to Him everyday and do not give up. He will give you the Holy Spirit.

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? {Luke 11:13}

To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing… {Isaiah 28:12}

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. {Acts 2:39}

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. {Mark 16:17}

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. {Ephesians 6:11-18}

Prayer

Father, I thank You for Your great love for me. I thank You that You never ever change. I thank You also that there is nothing impossible with You. I praise You and I worship You. You are my God and You are my life forever. Thank You.

I pray Father for more of You in my life. Lead me and continue to guide me to Your truth. You are my holiness and my righteousness, You are my hope for salvation. Without You, Jesus, I am nothing. Fill me with more of You, I pray in Your most wonderful name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
