Anything we want to accomplish in this life we can accomplish simply by using one powerful tool God has given us: our imagination. This is how to build our confidence. This is such a powerful tool we have within us that it even made God come in and intervene in the time of Noah. The Bible states,
And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
{Genesis 6:5-8}
The thoughts in the people’s imagination at Noah’s time were continuously evil and this made them to do wicked things before the eyes of the Lord. God came in and you know the rest of the story. He told Noah to build an ark and took him and his family away, and the world perished by a flood because of their wicked imagination.
Another time God again had to come in and intervene in the people’s lives was at the tower of Babel. He did not like what they were doing and scheming. He had told them to spread out and fill the earth, instead they were deciding to rebel against Him by staying together. The Lord confused the people by changing their language so that they couldn’t understand one another and continue their work of building the tower. God blamed it on man’s imagination. The Bible states,
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. {Genesis 11:6}
Again, the one powerful tool that got people in trouble with God was their imagination. If only we can use this power in us to create something good instead, imagine what God can do for us!
This same tool can propel us to the next level of the life we want to have, especially in our relationship with Jesus Christ. If we can imagine overcoming something or accomplishing that very thing we’re desiring for, we can achieve it. With the Lord backing us up, when we desire what is good in His eyes, then there’s nothing that can stop us. All we need to do is imagine it. The picture we see in our minds is faith at work: the substance of the things we hope for and the evidence of what we’re praying and dreaming of. All we have to do is imagine it and it’s done!
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. {Hebrews 11:1}
You have to see what you’re believing God for in your imagination first, before you can really claim it in your life. So next time you have a desire or a prayer in your life, whether a better marriage, better children, or better financial lifestyle, start imagining it and dreaming it. Build a picture of your desires and talk to the Lord about it. Keep those pictures and scenes in your mind all the time and get obsessed with it. Then add thanksgiving and praise to the Lord while you’re at it! Because when you delight yourself in the Lord and when you are loving Him and praising Him in advance, you are actually making God very pleased with you. You are telling Him that you believe He is great and able to make your dreams come to pass. This makes God very happy. It shows faith in Him. Before long you will see your vision become a reality in your life: your marriage restored, your children serving the Lord and your finances improved, etc. That’s why Apostle Paul wrote,
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. {Hebrews 11:6}
And the scripture states:
Where there is no vision, the people perish… {Proverbs 29:18}
Have you noticed that children in general have so much more confidence than we do? They don’t have a lot of fears like we do. It’s because they have great imaginations. They have great faith. They imagine a world that is full of hope and goodness. But somehow we adults have lost this powerful gift God has given to us along the way. We let bitterness and disappointments in our lives steal our joy of imagining. Instead of imagining hope and goodness we imagine heartaches, sorrow and pain. Do you know the Bible states that whatever we think we will end up becoming? Proverbs 23:7 tells us:
For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…
So if we think evil or depressing thoughts all the time, well guess what’s going to come in our peripheral field of view? Evil and depressing things of course. If we’re imagining disasters all the time, well that’s what we’re going to attract. It’s another reason why Apostle Paul gave us such an admonition regarding what we should be thinking about. Thanks to him we can have an idea of what we should be working on in our minds and entertaining in our thoughts. He said,
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. {Philippians 4:8}
With good thoughts and positive thoughts in our minds all the time and in our hearts, we are guaranteed to change and become one powerful being. When we change our way of thinking and seeing things in our minds through God’s way, our thoughts will change us into a better, calmer, and more confident person. With the Lord helping us, we are guaranteed to win. All we need to do is have faith in Him and use our imagination for His glory.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; {2 Corinthians 10:5}
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. {Mark 9:23}
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. {Proverbs 16:3}
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. {Psalm 37:5}
