A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, Thou art my God; early will I seek Thee: my soul thirsteth for Thee, my flesh longeth for Thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. {Psalm 63:1}
Sometimes you just have to fight to get what you want. When you’re thirsting and hungering for the Lord and you are not being filled, maybe it’s because it’s time to fight for more time with Him. Maybe it’s time to fast from all the distractions that are keeping you from getting more time with Him. There is a reason we long for the Lord. There is a reason nothing seems to satisfy in this life. No matter how much we pursue after earthly pleasures, we still feel empty and dissatisfied. It’s because God made us and created us in His image. There’s a soul and a spirit in each and every one of us that can only be filled by God. He intended it that way so that none of us can ever be satisfied without Him. He loves us. He created us. He made us. He wants us for Himself. He doesn’t want us to be independent of Him. He wants us to love Him back and reciprocate the love He feels towards us. Therefore when we feel unhappy and discontented and dissatisfied with life, it’s because He wants us to spend time with Him. So, stop running away from Him. Stop pretending the hunger and longing don’t exist and go filling yourself with more distractions of this world, because they’re not going to work for long. The activities and entertainment we bring ourselves to, so that the gnawing and emptiness we feel will go away, will only serve its purpose temporarily. As a matter of fact, they will only prolong our agony and make it worse. We’re fooling ourselves if we think they’re going to fill us. They will not. It’s time to be honest with ourselves and fight for what we truly want: God and more of Him. The more we have Him the more we will be filled by Him. That’s really what our soul is searching for and longing for these days – God. The only way to be filled is to seek Him with all of our hearts, be still, and talk to Him. He might not come right away. Sometimes you might have to go off on your own for hours away from the distractions of this world – the Internet, your phone, social media, chatting with friends, and maybe even food. Just go off somewhere where you will not be distracted for awhile and commune with Jesus. Talk to Him, and wait for Him. It is worth it. It is all worth it. Nothing fills like God. When God has filled you because you have waited for Him, you will experience what Isaiah wrote in the scriptures:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. {Isaiah 40:31}
You will feel like conquering the world. Your eyes will be opened to the faithfulness of God and the innumerable ways He is able to do exceeding abundantly what we ask or even think of. {Ephesians 3:20} Everything becomes possible in your life because you have spent time with the One who makes all things possible. Your spirit will be renewed, your heart will be strengthened, and you will be more ready to do the work of God and face the world. Without the Lord we are nothing. We cannot live without the One who made us and created us. That would be impossible. Trying to live without God is like trying to drive a vehicle without gas. You are not going anywhere. That’s why many of us get so unhappy these days. All we see, feel and hear are negative things, negative vibes, and negative news. All we see and hear now everywhere, are things to complain about. But when you go off from all of this stuff and turn away from them, and spend a moment of time with the Lord, the sky opens up for us and we see a new heaven and a new earth. We see a whole new world. We don’t despair like the rest of the world does, because we know what is coming. We see what is coming, and we understand Who is in control of everything. We know that the God of heaven and earth is still in control, and He is still the one who is seated on the throne of heaven reigning over all principalities and powers. We don’t despair. We know and understand what’s before us. He is coming back and will reign on this earth and will straighten everything out for us. We don’t let the world run the show in our minds. We have the Lord who is showing us things that are coming and has promised for those that love Him: eternal life with Him. That’s what we see and behold everyday. We are being filled by Him because we have waited and spent time with Him.
Hungering and thirsting or longing after the Lord, is so important in our walk with God. Don’t settle for what the world can feed you. Hunger and thirst for God and find Him. This hungering and thirsting are happening all over the world. There are so many people these days that are so unhappy and so unfulfilled. Some are truly empty and have no desire to live at all. It is God saying to everyone, “Come back to Me. Come and be filled. Find Me. Search for Me with all of your heart and find Me and I will fill you.” He is life everlasting. He is the Bread of Life. He is the Living Water to our soul. It is time to be filled by Him. It is time to fight for our time to be filled by Him. Don’t get lazy. Don’t let your flesh get intoxicated by the distractions and the stimulations of this world. This is the work of the enemy to snare us away from the Lord. These worldly pleasures are all temporary. They’re not going to last. We’ve got to fight against these things that snare us away from God. Remember nothing in this life can ever, ever satisfy like the Lord can. Nothing can fill like Jesus and the Spirit of God. He alone can fill us through and through. We’ve got to spend time with Him.
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst. {John 6:35}
But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. {John 4:14}
For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. {Jeremiah 2:13}
And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. {Jeremiah 29:13}
For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. {Jeremiah 31:25}
Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. {Matthew 5:6}
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You with all of my heart for Your grace and mercy upon me today. Thank You for Your love never fails. Thank You because even to this day You continue to desire for me to come back to You again and again and find You. Here I am Father, please fill me.
Father many are hungering and thirsting after You today. Please show me how to be filled by You. Show me how and when to make the time to read Your word and talk to You. There are more and more distractions being invented each day by Satan to take me away from You. Please Jesus, save me Father, for You have said that in the last days there are going to be snares upon the world that if it were possible it will also snare the very elect of us. If they will be snared, what’s my chance then? Please save me. Please do not forget me. Lead me to Your way everyday. Give me a heart that will hear You when You speak to me, and respond to You and acknowledge You in my life. Please Father, bless me with more and more of You today. I pray in Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
