Needing Jesus is the greatest thing we can ever feel and experience in this life. Probably not a lot of us feel this way. In truth we don’t want to need anything or anyone. We want to be self-sufficient. We want to be independent. We don’t want to have to need anyone. But again, I have to say it: needing Jesus is the greatest thing we can ever feel or experience in this life.
Needing Jesus is like needing water in a desert. If you don’t find water soon, you know you will die. When we need Jesus, our hearts will be filled with joy and gladness and the sorrows of this life can’t really overwhelm us. The barrenness of the world we live in can’t kill us. Because when we need Jesus more than anything in this life, we will find Him. We will find His hope, His strength, and His peace that passes man’s understanding. {Philippians 4:7} We will find life. The world is not a desert for us. It becomes a place where the harvest is ripe and the work of the Lord is our purpose. It is there to give us the purpose to live. Jesus becomes our bread and water. He fulfills our purpose in this life. He becomes our reason for living simply because we need Him and can’t live without Him.
If we don’t need Jesus we will miss out on a lot of things. We will miss out on knowing Him and having Him. We will miss out on what He can give to us. Through Him we come to understand why we’re here in this world in the first place, and why He has placed us here. We live everyday knowing that we are loved and are living according to His plan. Knowing that simple truth is so much more than anything we can ever gain in this world. So much more than any fame or fortune we can ever have. To know why we’re here is a treasure. It’s life itself. Only through Jesus Christ can one fully come to see and understand that. Your heart is filled. Your heart is satisfied. And you don’t long for anything else because He fills you through and through. His purpose fills you through and through. We will miss out on a lot of things that God has for us if we don’t know how to need Him. The Bible tells us,
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. {1 Corinthians 2:9}
It’s not enough to know about Jesus, or to hear about Jesus, or to say I’ve accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. We must need Him. When you need someone you can’t live without them. When you love someone or need someone so much that you must be with them, you can’t stand not to have them near you. The only way to walk in peace and love and serenity in this parched and barren world is to have Jesus all the time. And really need Him so your day can’t start without Him, and your night can’t end without Him. You must have Him always throughout the day too. You are talking to Him all the time.
It’s unfortunate that many of us come to need Jesus only when something upsetting happens in our lives. Either we lost a job, lost a loved one, or we are very sick and need healing in our bodies. But it doesn’t have to come to that to need Him. Just everyday, tell Him you need Him. Find a reason in your heart to need Him. Because in truth we always need Him, this life is too much to bear without Him. We live in a fallen world where Satan and demonic spirits are waging wars against the creation of God. They are not playing games. They are out to destroy us. We need the Lord. Jesus tells us,
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. {John 10:10}
Satan is that thief Jesus is describing. Satan has come to steal, to kill and to destroy. Another scripture tells us that Satan is like a roaring lion seeking whom He may devour. {1 Peter 5:8} Satan has no other agenda but to make life miserable for all of us. He doesn’t play favorites either. If you think he does, sooner or later those who pledge their lives to him will find him a traitor. He doesn’t care about love. He is not capable of it. He is a Father of lies after all, Jesus tells us. {John 8:44} Anyone that thinks they can have it good with Satan deceives himself. Sooner or later he’s going to destroy those who place their trust in him.
When we need Jesus we will talk to Him. We will spend time with Him, all the time. We will want to. No one else has to prod us or to encourage us or to tell us to do it. We will just do it because we need Him. If we don’t need Him we will not want to talk to Him. It’s simple enough. We will not do it. We will find it a chore, a burden, and boring. We will find it tedious. We will not want to do it. We will rather spend time on other things than talk to Him.
When we need something and can’t live without it, and are desperate for it, we will go to all the trouble in the world and make any effort to get it. We need food, shelter, and clothing for example, and so many of us everyday deny ourselves from a lot of pleasures to get up and go to work because of it. We understand if we don’t work we can’t eat. So we go and get up and deal with a job we don’t even like because we have to do it. We have no other choice but to do it. We need it. Our lives depend on it. The truth is our lives depend on needing Jesus. If we don’t need Jesus we cannot be saved. We cannot have God.
And He said to them all, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. {Luke 9:23}
The world is passing away. Every one of us has an expiration date. No one lasts and nothing in this world lasts. The only one that’s going to last is Jesus Christ. One of these days we won’t need the job, we won’t need the food, we won’t need the clothing, yet we will find ourselves needing to have had a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is so crucial to need Him now, because in the end we will only need Him. Only He can save our souls from eternal damnation and separation from God. Only He can take us out of this world when the rapture comes, and the satanic and evil forces of this world finally take over completely. But waiting until the end to need Jesus could end up being too late. We could wind up losing Him forever. We have to need Him now.
If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. {Luke 14:26}
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. {John 12:25}
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man. {Luke 21:36}
Prayer
Jesus I need You. I need You. Please come to me in my heart and in my soul and in my spirit. Come to me in my mind and dwell inside of me, because I need You. This world is too much for me to deal with Lord. Without You inside of me, living inside of me, talking to me and filling me through and through, the world will end up filling me and I will end up empty and barren and parched and dry. The evil and unclean spirits of this world will overwhelm me and will seduce me to sin and will destroy me. You are the only one that can destroy them and overcome them for me in the end. You are the only power I have against them and the only power I have to overcome in the end. I need You everyday, Jesus, I need You everyday. Please come to me and save me and fill me. I pray today Father, in Your wonderful name Lord Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
