If we want God to show up we have to get Him involved. The only sure way to have Him involved is to talk to Him. Whatever the issue is in our lives or problems we are faced with, we need to simply just talk to the Lord about them.
Remember King Hezekiah bringing that letter to the Lord that the king of Assyria had written to him, threatening to destroy Judah?
“And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.” {2 Kings 19:14}
I love how Hezekiah literally took the problem to the Lord. He took the letter the enemy had written and spread it before the Lord and basically said, “Look Lord, look at what they’re saying about You. You’ve got to do something about this. There’s no one else besides You that is greater than You. Please, Lord come and help us. Prove Yourself to them that the world will see that You are God alone.”
“And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God. Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.” {2 Kings 19:15}
I love his prayer. It’s so true and honest. It tells God exactly what is going on and what the problem is. Not only that, I love the fact that the enemy is putting God down in their eyes and saying bad things about Him. This is exactly what Hezekiah needed to inspire God to come to their rescue. What a trap the enemy had put themselves into. King Hezekiah knew exactly how to get God involved. He knew God would not like this at all. He knew God loves a challenge. There is nothing that is too difficult with the Lord, and He loves to prove above all to His people how faithful and how great He is.
Well, in short, God showed up. He came and delivered. He got all those Assyrians soldiers rounded up in one night and killed. All it took was one angel going through their camp and He wiped them all out. The children of Judah didn’t even need to stir themselves out of bed to fight for their lives. They just rested in the loving arms of the Almighty God who protected them the whole night through, simply because they trusted in Him and believed in Him to come through for them. God is just so awesome!
“And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.” {2 Kings 19:35-37}
The thing I am finding out again and again in my talking to the Lord is that God is in many ways just like us. So whenever we pray and talk to Him, we need to treat Him like He’s like us, like He’s completely a real person like us – because He is. Not only has He made us and created us to be like Him, in His image, He also came down and created Himself a body so that we have no excuse anymore not to identify with Him. He made Himself a human being like us so we can really come to Him and make Him our friend.
The surest and truest form of our faith in God is to treat Him like He’s one of us. He’s our friend, who understands us and loves us so much. When we truly believe that with all of our heart and soul that He understands us completely, there will be nothing that we will hide or keep from Him. We will talk to Him freely and unashamed. We will come out and just tell Him everything and anything that we feel and think in our hearts, because we know and understand who He is.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. {Jeremiah 33:3}
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. {Psalm 50:15}
Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. {James 5:13}
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. {Matthew 11:28-30}
Prayer
Father, I thank You with all of my heart that You are so true and so real. You have come for me through Your precious Son Jesus Christ and today I can be rest assured that You love me like no one else in the world can. You understand me completely. There is not a thought in my heart or soul or spirit that You do not understand. Every little sorrow or worry or dread or wish and desire, you know, and completely understand. And because You love me so much there is nothing I need to be afraid of when it comes to talking to You.
You have made a way of connecting with me through my heart, my soul, and my mind. There is no avenue or path in my way of communication with You that You cannot reach me with. You are here with me and in me always. All I need to do is to talk to You.
Please Jesus give me faith again to talk to You. I know Father, You hear me. Every thought, every desire, every thing in me, are known to You. If I would just open my heart to You and talk to You I will come to see You.
Please Father, help me to see You again today and talk to You, I pray. In Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
