Maybe this is not exactly the title I wanted to have in my blog post today, but this is what I’m hearing in my spirit to write about. Who wants Jesus to be modern? We most certainly expect Him to be a very serious man and a very serious Rabbi at that, not modern at all.

I don’t know about you, but I think a lot of us forget that Jesus Christ was a pretty modern man during His time on earth. Whether we like it or not, He wasn’t your typical religious man we expected Him to be, to say the least. His closest friends were uneducated and rough fishermen. He ate and drank with publicans and sinners, and finally He broke the Sabbath laws and protected a woman that was caught in the act of adultery. If you and I would think about it real hard, some of us would probably keep our children from being friends with such a man. We’d wonder if he was sound in his mind at all. Yet indeed He was, and He did all that and more, and we can’t help but love Him because of it.

Have we sometimes forgotten in our struggle to be perfect and righteous before Him, that God came for the sinner? Have we forgotten that Christ came here for us who have no status in this life, failed in being a success at anything, and are rejected by the religious norm in our society?  The God of all creation, the one who created the laws of Moses, established the Sabbath from the beginning, was betrayed, killed and crucified, came here for us. He came for those who have nothing going for them. He came for those who have no hope at all. He came for you and I, who can give nothing in return except our hearts and allegiance to Him. That is all He is asking for today. He cares nothing about our status, our heritage, or our history. All He wants is to be loved back in return.

Won’t you please talk to Him?

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. {Isaiah 53:5}

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You with all of my heart for Your incredible and undying love for me today. I can’t even begin to understand why You’d love me, but I thank You that You do. I thank You that there is nothing that I can ever go through or experience or do in this life that You will not help me with. Whatever I need in this life to be saved You will help me. You will do it for me because it is important to You that I am saved.

Please Lord Jesus, save me today. Give me faith in Your love for me today and help me to be opened in my heart to You regarding my sins and my shortcomings. Let me not be afraid of You Jesus. Let me talk to You about anything and everything that is burdening me in this life. Help me to remember that You love me very much and are ready to forgive me of all of my unrighteousness. Give me faith I pray in Your love for me today, and come and be opened to You, in Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
