O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from Thee. {Psalm 69:5}

God loves us so much. There is nothing He will not do for us, to a point where He unrobed Himself of His heavenly power and dwelt in a living human body in Jesus Christ. He became like you and I, to die for our sins. That’s what it was going to take to redeem us from the grips of Satan and the supernatural powers of this world that binds so many of us today. He bled and died and overcame, all of these powers and principalities of this world, so that today we too can overcome. He did all this, but we don’t take advantage of this power when we hide things from Him. He cannot help us. He cannot save us. He cannot deliver us if we are not honest with Him.

One of the things God hates is lying. God knows everything about us. There is nothing we can hide from Him. The things that we think are secrets to others are totally known to Him. So we cannot hide anything from Him. When He’s dealing with us about a sin or a shame that we’re hiding from Him, and we don’t respond to His dealing with us to talk to Him about it, that hurts Him. That’s like lying to Him. That’s hiding things from Him and in turn, He cannot help us. He cannot come and comfort us and lift us up and take our sins and shame away. What is He here then for?

We need to be honest with the Lord all the time. If we’re fighting things in our life about our struggles with ourselves, struggles with our children, with our spouse, with everyday living, it doesn’t matter what it is. He died to set us free from all of these things that make us frustrated and unhappy. Give these all to Him. Make Him come near by talking to Him and telling Him about these struggles. This is what He is here for, to help us, to deliver us and to lift us up from the sorrow and sadness of this life. But He cannot do this for us if we don’t talk to Him and aren’t honest with Him about it.

We have to talk to Him and go against our inclinations to do it ourselves. Many times we go on autopilot to fix things up on our own. Yet He’s right there, just a whispered prayer away, eager to help us and we don’t take advantage of it. This drives God crazy. It’s like a parent watching their child do things on their own and you see how obvious it is they need help, and they won’t ask for help. God has overcome for our sakes. Not for His sake, but for ours. He’s fought the principalities of this world. He overcame death, hell and the grave. He has enough power to bind the whole universe with His little finger, and we won’t cry out to Him for help? The ones He loves out more than anything in this universe won’t cry out to Him for help. How do you think He feels? Do you know that crying out to Him for help glorifies Him? The Lord tells us in His word,

And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me. {Psalm 50:15}

When He deals with us about anything that bothers us in this life, the thought will come into our minds. That scene, that event, or that circumstance will come into our minds. That is our cue to talk to the Lord about it. We don’t need to hear a voice from heaven saying, “Come, talk to me about this”. When it comes into our hearts and it’s in there in our minds, that’s Him saying to us, “Talk to me about this.” Right then and there talk to Him about it. Do not wait. Do not shove that sin or that shame or that hurt away. Do not pretend it doesn’t exist. Talk to Him about it. Talk to Him because He wants you to stop being bothered about it. He loves you so much He wants you to stop being unhappy. Prophet Isaiah tells us,

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. {Isaiah 26:3}

We need to talk to Him about anything and everything, all the time, if we want peace of mind in this life. I have learned that when something happens in my life that bothers me and it comes to me in my mind later on, that is His cue to me to talk to Him about it. Often we push hurtful things away from our minds so we don’t have to deal with them. But those things can become a detriment to our spiritual walk with Him. The enemy, Satan, can use these things to prowl on us at night, (especially when we’re vulnerable and weak) to torture us. Then because he’s made us miserable and unhappy about it, we’ll start to sin in our hearts and start to feel and believe that God doesn’t love us at all anymore, and He’s a million miles away from us. We have thoughts like, “He’s punishing me because I’m not good enough that’s why this stuff is happening to me.” This is exactly what the enemy of our soul, Satan, wants us to feel about God. He wants us to believe that God hates us and wants nothing to do with us, and is punishing us. He will do anything to keep us away from God. These are lies and wicked thoughts against God. The only way to overcome these thoughts is to talk to God about it. Be honest with Him. Tell Him what we’re thinking about in the moment. Don’t be afraid. Just come and say it, “God why are You punishing me? Why are these things happening to me? Am I that horrible that You’re letting me go through this miseries I’m going through? Why do You hate me?” Be honest. Be brutally honest with God and you will get an honest answer. Unless we’re honest with the Lord we will not get His help. And I promise you He will come. He will respond to your heart, to your soul and to your spirit. You will hear Him. You will know it’s Him because He will enlighten your mind and you will know it’s Him.

The more we’re honest with the Lord the more we will see Him in our lives. We don’t need to hide anything from Him. He loves us so much that He gave His life for us. We don’t need to pretend He doesn’t know our secrets and the thoughts that are in our hearts. He knows it all. He knows every breath we take. He knows every hope and dream we cherish in our hearts. Whether good or bad, every thought we have He knows. The psalmist said it this way,

Shall not God search this out? for He knoweth the secrets of the heart. {Psalm 44:21}

But the beautiful thing is if we share these thoughts with the Lord, whether good or bad, we will make Him love us more. If we’re honest with Him about ourselves, the more He will love us in return. And in turn, we will have a better heart. We will have better thoughts. Because we will have more of God. We will grow in Him. He will talk back to us and show Himself to us. We will come to know Him and fall in love with Him too. He will become really amazing to us and real in our lives. This is the kind of relationship He wants from each and everyone of us.

Be honest with the Lord and you will go far with Him. He loves us so much!

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. {Jeremiah 29:11}

Prayer

Lord Jesus, how lovely You are Lord. How lovely You are in my life that You gave Your life to set me free from the power of the darkness and the principalities of this world. Because You have overcome this world for me, I will overcome also. Please Father help me to be honest with You, because it is the only way to overcome everything in this life. I will never get the kind of relationship you desire with me if I am  not honest with You. Help me to wait on You too, Lord. Help me to listen to Your response to me. Help me to wait on You in what You want to say to me, because You will surely talk back to me. I ask for these things Father in Your most wonderful and lovely name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
