Have you ever found yourself upset, angry, or overwhelmed and felt helpless? Have you ever found yourself treated unfairly and couldn’t say or do anything to defend yourself? Don’t just sit there and waste a prayer, start talking to the Lord. Start venting to Him everything you are feeling, because feelings are the thing that moves God. You don’t want to waste that wonderful prayer and opportunity you have to move God. It doesn’t matter if you’re not sure you’re in the right or not. Don’t even analyze whether or not it’s a right prayer. Just start releasing yourself from all those emotions and start “projecting” them to the Lord. If you feel unjustly treated or angry, project these feelings to Him because this is a powerful thing that can move God.
A couple of things will happen when you bring your emotions to the Lord. First you will release yourself from all the bad feelings you are experiencing and of any pressure you feel in your heart. You will feel lighter and not so overwhelmed. Second, God is going to take your emotions and make them His own and act on your behalf. Nothing moves God more than when a child of God pours his or her heart out with all their emotions to Him. When you’re upset about an unfair thing that happened (whether towards yourself or towards another human being), and you project your feelings about it to the Lord, He will be upset too. He will not be able to help Himself because He’s a very emotional God. The Bible tells us He’s full of compassion and of a great mercy.
The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. {Psalm 145:8}
It also tells us,
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. {Hebrews 4:15}
We have a high priest, in Jesus Christ, that is easily moved by our infirmities. Emotions easily move him. Remember John 3:16? It said, “God so loved…” Those words are full of emotions. He so loved us that He died. He hung, bled and died at the cross for our sake. He is so tender hearted and merciful that when we come to Him with all our emotions He can do nothing else but act on it.
Think about this prayer by King David that moved God,
“I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill. Selah.” {Psalm 3:4}
This was the time when David’s own son Absalom came against him and wanted his kingdom. Absalom had an enormous amount of people backing him up to oust the king. It was so scary that King David had to flee and run for his life. Can you imagine your own child coming against you with a throng of people, and you’re the ruler over them? This was not only scary but was so unfair. David did not waste his prayer, he vented out all his emotions to the Lord and wept and cried to Him. Two things happened in the process of David crying out and projecting his feelings to the Lord. First, he got comfort. He felt calmed and unafraid afterwards. This is what he said,
“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.” {Psalm 3:5-6}
The second thing that happened when David shared his feelings to the Lord was God saved him. God heard his prayer and did something about it. This is what David said about it,
“For Thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; Thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon Thy people. Selah.” {Psalm 3:7-8}
Another emotional scene I can think of was when Jesus was invited to a supper in the house of a Pharisee. A woman with an alabaster box of ointment came behind the Lord weeping and washed his feet with her tears and the ointment. She would then wipe away all her tears and the ointment with her hair. She would also kiss his feet. Talk about an emotional scene. The Bible states that she was a sinner and Simon the Pharisee knew about it and scorned the Lord for allowing this woman to touch him. It sounds to me based on Simon’s feelings against this woman that she must have had a very bad reputation in that community. But instead of scorning the woman, the Lord was moved by it. This is what the Lord ended up doing,
“And He turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for My feet: but she hath washed My feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss My feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed My feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And He said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.” {Luke 7:36-50}
Think about this scene. Think about what happened here. Jesus was really moved by this act. This woman crying and kissing His feet was full of emotions. Her heart was bursting with it. The Lord felt it. He not only defended her from the critical eyes of Simon and the rest of the people that were in that house, but the Lord granted her the desire of her heart to be forgiven. He did not pull away from her touch because she was a sinner, but rather he was so moved by her emotional act that the Lord rebuked Simon for thinking and feeling hateful towards her. The Lord stood up for her.
So, whatever you do, don’t waste a prayer. Don’t just sit there and waste all those emotions away. Share them with the Lord and project them to Him. Like I said before, whether you believe you’re in the right or not, or worthy of Him or not, it doesn’t matter. Just share them. I have found this again and again to be so true in my life. I have experienced the Lord come through for me again and again because of this. I don’t wait until I’m calmed down and relaxed to finally share my feelings with the Lord. I strike while the iron is hot. Right there and then I share my feelings to Him. Whether I’m sad or angry or even happy and glad, if there’s a prayer or thanksgiving in it, I share it with Him. He loves to feel our emotions. He is such an emotional God. Think about it. If He wasn’t an emotional God would we be the way we are? We are all driven by our emotions. We make decisions and do and say things so many times based on how we feel. We’re all emotional beings. How then can we say God isn’t an emotional God when He made us and created us, and we are made in His image? God loves us so much and desires so much to share with us everything we’re going through.
So please, don’t waste a prayer. Next time you’re angry, upset, feeling overwhelmed, or even feeling happy and joyful, share your feelings with the Lord. Your emotions are a powerful thing that can move the heart of God. Don’t waste it.
Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. {1 Peter 5:7}
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. {Psalm 27:14}
Prayer
I love You, Lord. You are so awesome! Thank You so much for Your great love for me. I thank You Father for coming through for me again and again. I thank You for letting me share my feelings to You of anger, worry, sadness or sorrow or even joyfulness and gladness in my life. I thank You that You love sharing in my moments and hearing my prayers at the same time. I love You and I give You all the praise and glory, now and forever may Your name be magnified in all of the earth. I pray for more love for You, Father, in Your wonderful name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
