As is the case with living in this fallen world, discouragement happens. Think about Prophet Elijah, Prophet Jeremiah, and of course Job. That’s just to name a few. Think about Rachel and Hannah when they wanted to have children but couldn’t. Naomi, who lost everyone she loved in the land of Moab, her husband and both sons that were her only children. How about Queen Esther, when she found out that the king’s most trusted advisor Haman wanted to kill the Jews who were her own people, and now it’s up to her to do something about it or else they will all perish. Talk about discouragements. Discouragement happens. Life happens. Problems, trials, and challenges are going to come. That’s just part of living in this fallen world. But thank God, because today we don’t have to go through this life alone when discouragements do happen. We have God. We have the Lord. We have Jesus Christ, who said to us,

These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. {John 16:33}

Isn’t that verse just beautiful? I mean talk about overcoming discouragements. Jesus Himself overcame so many of them. Imagine the Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane, knowing what was about to take place within hours. He finds His dearest friends, Peter, James, John and the rest of the disciples asleep, unable to join Him for prayer. He wanted them to pray with Him, because His hour was near to be delivered to the hands of sinners. But what were they doing? Asleep and couldn’t be counted on at the moment. That happens. Sooner or later as much as you don’t want to believe it, you will find yourself alone, or even worse, misunderstood. No one, not even your very dearest friend in this world can share the pain you will experience at that moment. Jesus went through this exact scenario so many times. It was one of His closest friends who betrayed Him for crying out loud! Sold Him for thirty pieces of silver. All His disciples fled from the scene when the soldiers came to take Him. Peter denied Him, the one who professed hours earlier that he would die for Him.

Truth is, every single one of us is on our own with our own thoughts and our own feelings. No one can really share them completely with us. No one can, except God. That’s why it’s so crucial to make friends with Jesus Christ. It’s so crucial to find Him when we’re unhappy and discouraged. The Bible tells us about Him,

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. {Isaiah 53:3}

Who else is going to identify with us completely except the Lord? He alone can go into the depths of our soul and feel the longings and the pain and the sorrow we feel. He alone can share our sorrow without reservations. Because He is a Spirit He can do this. He can go inside our heart and soul and share with us completely.

Not only that, He loves us so much. He loves us with an everlasting love. He made us. He created us. He knows and understands our every thought and longing. He loves us so much that He gave His life for us, so that we can find His forgiveness and acceptance. Through His death at Calvary and the shedding of His precious blood He has made a way for us to go to Him, the most Holy One of Israel, and be accepted by Him. He’s done it all for us because He loves us so much. All we have to do now is just talk to Him. Tell Him our need of Him. Tell Him our desire to be included in His circle of friends. The Bible tells us,

He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with his stripes we are healed. {Isaiah 53:5}

Discouragements happen. The cares of this life can come upon us and overwhelm us. But we don’t have to be alone. He is able to carry us through and lift us up above all these things. He can put all our worries and all of our burdens and problems on Himself at the cross, so that all we have to do today is say to Him, “Jesus, I need You. Please come and help me and be my Lord and Savior today, Father, I pray.” We just need to talk with the Lord. Spend some time with Him, and soon we will be on our way again overcoming in this life.

But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. {Philippians 4:19}

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. {John 14:18}

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. {Philippians 4:13}

Prayer

Lord thank You for Your grace. Thank You for Your unmerited favor You bestowed upon me today, so that whenever I need help I can turn to You and find it. I don’t have to be alone in this life when it hits me hard. I don’t have to be run down in turmoil and confusion when discouragements hit me. I can find You. I can find Your strength and Your love. I can find Your forgiveness and acceptance. I can find You always there to share my sorrow and my pain. Your love is greater than anything I can ever go through in this life. My hope is in You Jesus. Please love me today. Come and help me today. Help me to feel Your love and Your strength and forgiveness. I ask for these things Father in Your most wonderful and lovely name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
