That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. {1 Peter 1:7}
Trials and tribulations are an inevitable part of life. We cannot avoid it. The sooner we accept this the sooner we can have a better chance at being happy despite of it. I guess the better question should be: What should we do when we go through tribulations in this life? Because, like it or not, we will go through them. Jesus tells us,
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. {John 16:33}
Jesus didn’t say, “We might have tribulations” but He said, “In the world you shall have tribulations.” It’s a given, it’s a part of life. Even the Lord tells us this. The wonderful thing though is that He assures us that through Him we will find comfort – through Him we will find peace. We will overcome through Him. We don’t have to be alone in all our trials and tribulations. We don’t have to become overwhelmed by them and despair. We can find peace and comfort and strength and help if we find Him. When we know how to find the Lord, we are assured of His peace.
We live in a fallen world where sin and Satan and the principalities of this world have reign. We live in a fallen body where temptations and carnal desires are a part of us. We cannot escape it. Satan most of all have an insatiable desire to destroy mankind because of his hatred towards God. Anything to make God unhappy He will do it. We are God’s offspring. We are God’s creation and most beloved by Him so much so He gave His life for us and died for us at the cross. Satan will do whatever it takes to take us away from God so he can bring pain to God. With that said it is important to keep looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. It is important to resist Satan and to keep fighting Him through prayer and fasting and calling upon the name of the Lord for help and strength. We cannot fight this battle with Satan without the Lord’s help. We must come to know and learn to know how to find the Lord in time of our trials and tribulations so that we will overcome Satan instead of him overcoming us.
Apostle Peter tells us that our trials are more precious than gold. When we suffer and our hope is in Jesus, our trials and tribulations have eternal benefits behind them. They’re not just wasted experiences. They have value in the sight of God. He uses them to lift His name up in our lives and in this world. Through our trials we come to know He is faithful. We come to believe in Him more and more. Our faith increases. When we allow the Lord to deal with us through our trials and tribulations we can share in His glory. We can become more like Him. We end up trusting in His strength to see us through and we end up knowing who Jesus is in His suffering at the cross. If everything is easy for us we will never come to understand half of the greatness of the cross. We will never come to appreciate what Jesus Christ has done for us at Calvary.
Besides this, the Bible tells us that in the end our works will be rewarded. If we faint not there is a great reward for us in heaven for those that stay faithful in their love for God. The Bible tells us,
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. {1 Corinthians 15:58}
Jesus assures us in His word,
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. {Revelation 21:7}
Our trials also make us instruments of God’s comfort for others. It teaches us to be compassionate and relatable to other people’s sufferings. We can turn around and bring comfort to people who need comforting. The Bible tells us,
Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. {2 Corinthians 1:3-4}
So nothing is wasted. Any sorrow or pain we go through in this life for the name of the Lord can turn around for our benefits. It will help us increase in our faith in Jesus and become instrument of comfort for others and in the end, eternal life with Him.
The key thing to going through our own trials is knowing what to do when we’re going through it. Once we learn to find the Lord in our afflictions and come to believe in the faithfulness of His love for us then we can find peace and joy in this life. We come to understand that there are no trial and tribulation that the Lord cannot see us through with. Whatever sorrow, whatever pain, and whatever heartache we go through in this life we come to learn that Jesus Christ will be there for us. We come to experience that He knows how to work everything out for our good. If we have tried Him before and found Him to be faithful we know He will do it again for us today and tomorrow and until the end. He promised to never ever leave us nor forsake us. He will be there for us.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. {Hebrews 13:8}
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. {John 14:27}
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. {Romans 8:28}
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. {Romans 5:5}
Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. {1 Peter 5:9}
