My dad and I have been sharing some songs. He’s the first singer/songwriter in the family. I got my desire and inspiration from him to write songs, but really I didn’t get the talent from him, the Lord gave it to me. I couldn’t write a song for the life of me for years and years, until I asked the Lord one day many years ago (which by the way I thought I would never ever forget the date I first wrote my song since it meant so much to me, but alas I have forgotten! ughhh). I do remember the moment though. I was a junior in high school at my Grandmother’s house, in prayer after supper, when the Lord responded to my request. The Lord granted my heart’s desire and prayer and gave me a song and the ability to write songs that night. Chic and Jones (my younger sister and brother) on the other hand got their songwriting talent from my dad, because they were writing songs way before me, and I don’t think they had to ask God to give them the ability to do it.
So my dad wrote this first song after being risen from the dead. Three months ago he was in ICU, and we all thought at one point that he was going to pass away for sure. We feared so much for his life. But God took care of that and heard our prayers, and told me He was going to give my dad new kidneys. The docs were saying they weren’t sure if his kidneys were ever going to recover. My dad went through over a month of dialysis, and then just like that they said his creatinine level is so good he doesn’t need dialysis anymore! A complete miracle. He swelled up so much you couldn’t even recognize him it was so sad. But now he’s getting better. So he wrote this song titled “Living For God” and it’s a really wonderful song. He said I can share it on my website. Today is his birthday. He is 68 years old. Happy Birthday Pops! I love you!
