There are times we suffer unnecessarily. Many times it’s usually something we have done and regretted, that gets played in our minds over and over again. We forget about them when we’re focused on something else, like work or chatting with a friend. But when we’re all alone in our thoughts, like driving to work or taking a break to relax for a moment, we remember. Our thoughts inevitably zoom in directly to that scene, event or moment we have in our minds that we regret, and we wish we can go back and undo it. We are filled with shame and pain all over again. Sometimes we are filled with anger and the sense of injustice that things didn’t go our way – that circumstance, chance and fate happened, and now it’s over and we can’t do anything about it anymore. But rather than accepting it and letting it go, it gnaws on us until we are filled with regret. We feel shame and pain and anger. We are overcome with sadness and sorrow, and we wonder why we go on living. Before long life becomes one long string of sad events and disappointments.
But really we torture ourselves unnecessarily. Rather than let the enemy use our emotions against us, and have us relive that awful memory over and over again in our minds, why not start handing that scene to the Lord? Put it in His care and talk to Him about it. He knows about it already. Not only does the Lord knows about it already, He is suffering along with you. Perhaps even more so than you, because He knows how to help you and easily take that regret and shame away, along with the sense of injustice and anger you feel. You’re just going to replay and wash yourself with all those emotions anyway, why not start projecting these emotions and scenes to the Lord? Start by saying in your heart, “Jesus, help me.” When that scene starts to come and replay itself, start projecting your heart and soul to the Lord and share the scene with Him. Start including Him in your scene because He was there. It doesn’t matter how shameful it may be to you, He knows every single detail of that event already. So include Him in. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be ashamed because He was already there. He is even now in the scene that you replay in your mind, waiting for you to cry out to Him, so He can help you and comfort you and deliver you. Remember, the Bible tells us that the Lord did not come down to condemn us. He has come down to save us from our sins. He loves us so much that His desire is for us to talk to Him about everything and anything that pains us, and make Him our confidant and our very best friend.
For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. {John 3:17}
Stop the unnecessary suffering – talk to Jesus. Let Him in. Say to Him, “Father, you see the scenes in my mind. You see what happened. I wish I can undo it and take it back. I wish it never happened. I wish I could start all over again…” Tell the Lord everything you feel. Remember, He is for you and not against you. This is the very reason He came down and died at the cross, so that we don’t have to live with our shame and regrets in this life. It’s so that we can boldly share them with Him and find His love and forgiveness. There is no sin that is greater than His love for us. The Bible tells us that He loves us and died for us though we were sinners. It’s because He knows we need Him. It’s because He sees our need of Him.
But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. {Romans 5:8}
But talk from your heart. Get into detail of what you wish you could’ve done or what you wish should have happened. Then tell the Lord what you want Him to do for you. Whether you want Him to undo the mistakes you made, take your sins away, or what others did to you, or to take the memory away, tell Him. You can say, “Father, I give this situation and this event to you. I give you this – regret, this shame, this pain,” etc., whatever it is that’s causing you sorrow and heartache and pain, and release yourself of it. Then love Him. Say, “You are my God who loves me, who gave His life for me to take my sins away. Jesus, I love You and I give You all the praise and glory. I thank You for Your compassion, your mercy and your grace upon my soul today. I thank You for loving me and for forgiving me of my sins. I thank You for giving Your life away for me at the cross so that I can live my life abundantly for You today. I thank You, Jesus, because You mean the world to me. I give myself to You today, Father. I thank You for healing me.” And that’s it. Do this as often as you need to and as often as it will help you, and mean it from your heart. Go through your scenes, go through your pain with the Lord. Don’t leave any details out. Share your scenes with Him, because the Lord can see the movies you have in your heart and in your mind as much as you do. You don’t even need to recite everything to Him in words, but just in your heart and in your thoughts to Him. He knows what you feel too. He can feel it as well, because He is a Spirit and can go and be anywhere. He can fill your heart and your soul with His Spirit, and know and feel what you’re feeling and thinking. So just connect with Him with your heart and He will be there. One by one, line by line, moment by moment, point to that scene or scenes that bother you and hurt you. Ask the Lord to help you get over the power they have on you and cause you to be unhappy. Tell Him what you want. You can tell Him to take the memories away from you, to help you not to remember them anymore. The next time the scenes come into your mind the pain should be less and less. When you talk to the Lord each time the scenes come, and you get Him involved in how you feel and you let Him know your desire, their effects should lessen and their power to hurt you should diminish. Sometimes you might even find yourself healed of this situation right away. Sometimes it might take a process of weeks, or months, or even years – depends on how involved and how often you have the Lord come into your thoughts and into your heart. The more open you are to the Lord, the more involved He will be in your scenarios and in your process of healing. The key thing is to be honest and open to the Lord, and not hide anything from Him.
Also it is important to do what His Spirit is telling you to do. He will speak to you and He will show you what He wants you to do, so that you can get on the road of healing. For example, He may tell you in your spirit to forgive that person that has hurt you, or to stop thinking and replaying that scene again and again. There are times we get into a habit of replaying a scene over and over again because it has become a part of us. I’ve found that the Lord will help us to be aware of this action and will want us to stop our thoughts before they continue. It is important to follow His dealings with us. Maybe we need to talk to that person that hurt us or we have hurt. If this is something He is dealing with you about and you still find it very difficult to do, then tell the Lord. Don’t hide what you feel from Him. Be honest with Him about it. Tell Him that it’s difficult for you and why. Then He will show you what you will need to do next. He will make this easier for you and doable. Sometimes it will feel like it’s not easy, but if you take the Lord up on His dealings with you, He will make it easy. He will be there to help you to accomplish it. Not only that, He will be very pleased with you that you had faith in Him and trusted Him to be there for you. He will surely bless your efforts no matter how small or insignificant it may be to others. He will bless you for obeying His voice. He will help us step by step to healing, but it’s important that we listen to Him and do what He tells us in our spirit to do after we have our talks with Him.
When we tell the Lord the things that pain us, whether memories of the past or even situations in our present time, the enemy will no longer have power to continue to afflict us unless we give it to him. For example, once we’ve confessed everything to the Lord we can turn around and have the power over Satan to tell him to leave us alone. As long as we’re keeping things hidden from God, He cannot help us, and the enemy then can have the power over us to torture us and condemn us. He will torture us with guilt. That’s one of his many tools to keep us away from God and to go back to being miserable and unhappy again. Don’t give him the power. This is why I call this unnecessary suffering, because it’s not necessary anymore to sit there and suffer. Just a simple talk with the Lord will make everything right again. He will make all things right for you. The death of Jesus Christ has no match with any sin you have done, or what others have done to you. Whatever sin or shame or regret that happened in the past can be taken care of easily by simply talking to the Lord about it, and asking for His grace and forgiveness. If it’s difficult for you to let go and forgive that person who hurt you then you can ask the Lord to help you forgive, and He will. The next time Satan comes and tortures your mind with scenes that you’ve already talked to the Lord about, just simply tell him to go away. Rebuke him. Tell him, “Satan, enough. You have tortured me long enough over this and I want you to stop. I’ve talked to the Lord about this already and He has forgiven me and He is helping me. His love is greater than my sins (or regret or shame or whatever it is that pains you). It is done. It has no power over me anymore. I rebuke you in the name of the Lord Jesus and I command you to never bother me with this scenario again. I rebuke you in Jesus’ name.” And that’s it. Believe what you just told Satan and he will leave you alone. Don’t give him anymore power. You can do this by just simply loving the Lord and thanking Him for healing you. Whenever doubts and fears of the enemy start to rise up again, just love the Lord. Talk to Him. Tell Him you love Him and appreciate Him for healing you and for hearing your prayers. Thank Him for giving His life for you at the cross. You can never thank God enough for this. You can never say this enough to the Lord. His death is the greatest proof of His love for us, and when we thank Him again and again for His death at the cross the power of His love becomes greater and greater in our hearts and in our soul. He ends up filling us through and through. Also thank Him for taking Satan away from tormenting you with these scenarios in your mind. Tell Him to keep Satan from torturing you with these scenarios and the Lord will definitely keep him away from you.
You are loved very much by the Lord. Stop the unnecessary suffering and talk to the Lord about it. Tell Him how you feel and do not hide anything from Him. He will hear you, listen, and help you.
Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. {Matthew 11:28-30}
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. {Hebrews 11:6}
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. {John 14:18}
