The Author And The Finisher Of Our Faith

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” {Hebrews 12:2}

We are not alone in this life. God in His infinite wisdom drew us to Him to come and love Him and desire Him – it is not of our own doing. Remember, we are carnal, we are flesh. There is nothing in us that will desire the things of God. The flesh’s desire is to constantly war against the things of God. Paul tells us in his epistle:

For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. {Galatians 5:17}

That’s why Paul tells us in another epistle:

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. {Romans 7:18}

So in essence, we have no strength on our own. We have no righteousness to boast of on our own. Whatever good we do, we do because of the Spirit of God in us. Therefore, knowing all this, our need of Jesus Christ is great. We need to always be coming to Him, always drawing to Him and acknowledging Him in our lives, because without Him we cannot do anything that is worthy of praise.

To live the life that Christ wants us to live depends on our need of Him. The more we need Him the more He will come to us. The less we need Him the less He will come to us. The less He comes to us the less we will be successful in our walk with Him.

If we want the life that is pleasing to God and gives praise and honor to His name, we must at all times talk to Him. We must, at all cost, surrender every part of ourselves to the Lord. This happens when we take the time to talk to Him, and as much as we can each day, pour our hearts and our thoughts to the Lord. The more we find ourselves needing Him the more we will be filled.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. {Matthew 5:6}

If we do not come to the Lord He cannot fill us. Nothing else in this life can replace the way God fills the soul of every human being. He alone can go into the deepest part of our being and fill it. He alone died and gave up His life to make this possible for us. He alone rose again after the third day and promised to send down His Spirit, His Comforter to comfort us and to fill us.

For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. {Jeremiah 31:25}

The only way to be filled is to talk to the Lord and make our desires known to Him, of our need to be filled. He will not force Himself onto anyone who does not want Him. Unless we tell Him our need to be filled, we will not be filled. The Lord tells us,

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. {John 16:24}

Jesus Christ is the author and the finisher of our faith. He alone can give us the faith to see this life through and finish it with victory. Without the Lord we are lost. We cannot do anything on our own.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. {John 15:5}

The world is a scary place to be in without the Lord. It is full of devils and sin. It is too much for one person to fight against and win. Your will to do what is good and right is not enough to overcome Satan and his powers. There have been great men and women who succumbed to Satan’s evil and wicked devices because their will was not strong enough. Satan can create situations in our lives to make the toughest man weak and crumble, and give in to the pressures of life. He does not discriminate. There have been leaders, preachers, teachers, and coaches, powerful and intelligent people that have been wiped out by sin. There is no one that can stand up against the power of Satan except Jesus Christ. If you want to overcome, if you want to be victorious, if you want to win in the end, you will have to talk to the Lord and make Him your friend. Make him your master and your Lord, because He alone overcame Satan at the cross. That work is already done. Christ has done the work. It’s done. The shedding of God’s blood was needed to redeem man’s soul from the power of Satan and the darkness of this world. We all belonged to Satan without Christ. If God had left this world as it was and had not died for us, every single one of us would belong to Satan. Unless God comes and intervenes we will all be lost. Remember during the time of Noah, there was just one person that found the grace of God – it was Noah. Because of Noah the rest of his family was saved. Out of all the people in his time only Noah, his wife, and his three sons and their wives were saved. No one can save himself unless God shows us His compassion and mercy. Fortunately, He has done that for us already by overcoming at Calvary for us. Nothing then is left but for us to simply talk to the Lord today and respond to His drawing of us to come to Him. We can freely ask Him today to fill us with more of His Holy Spirit, to be with us, and to be our Lord and Master, our God and King. When He becomes our Master and Friend there is no power in heaven or in hell that can come against us or overcome us. Jesus Christ in us will overcome Satan. Jesus Christ is the author and the finisher of our faith. No one, not Satan nor the principalities of this world can have us. When our desires are surrendered to Jesus Christ and we are always, everyday, all the time, every moment of the day, talking to the Lord and making Him our very all-in-all, nothing can overcome us and separate us from His love. We will overcome in this life because Christ in us has overcome this world and He loves us with an everlasting love.

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. {John 16:33}

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. {Romans 8:37}

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. {Jeremiah 31:3}

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I thank You so much with all of my heart for Your boundless love towards Your people today. I thank You Father, that there is nothing that can separate us today from Your love. No matter how far we’ve walked away from You we can still come and return to You again and again because Your love for us is faithful. We need to come to You everyday Lord so that we will not walk in darkness. Help us Father, to recommit our lives and our hearts to You everyday that You may fill us more and more of Your power and Spirit. We humbly come to You and give You praise and honor and glory. Now and forever let Your name be magnified in our lives. I pray, in Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
