The Only God

Click here to listen

“I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside Me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known Me.” {Isaiah 45:5}

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” {Deuteronomy 6:4}

One of the things Satan likes to do with the people of God who believe in Him is to have them doubt that there is only one God. The world hates the idea of having only one God because it would mean Jesus. Jesus means they have to turn away from sin and live a righteous life. It would mean denying oneself. Oh, horror! Without self where would we be? How can one become happy? Self therefore is the next best thing to God in man’s life these days. The pursuit of happiness is number one. Without self there is no happiness. So then, how can a man who lives in this world and wants to be successful and accepted by this world, become happy without it? So they hate the name of Jesus because (no surprise here) the god of this world is Satan and he hates Jesus. Satan lies to people. He wants us to believe that we cannot be happy with Jesus and in denying ourselves. He wants us to think it is impossible. But because Jesus has come to oust Satan from his dominion and turn men’s thoughts and ideas of self around, and bring back the glory due to God, Satan hates Jesus. And in turn, the world hates Jesus.

This is what happens when we start to become too busy to spend time alone with the Lord and to talk to Him. We start to lose sight of the Lord and start to become attracted to the world and it’s ideas. We start to think they know better than us. We start to glorify their thoughts and their “research.” We start to think they know what they’re talking about. We fear the world and we want to appease Satan because we don’t want him to hurt us. But the problem is, the more you appease Satan, the more he will push his will on you. There is no fighting him except by returning to the Lord, and talking to Him about our fears. The world likes to foam and gnash their teeth the minute you start to mention the name of Jesus and how there is only one God, the God of Israel. They say there is more than one God and that there is another way to God and it’s not Jesus. They’ll start naming ways to God and start naming other gods as God. The only way to keep ourselves from being afraid of them is to stay connected with the Lord. Without Jesus Christ and talking to Him all the time, we cannot make it as a Christian in this world. The power of Satan and the lies he tells people are too strong for anyone to resist, unless they are connected with the Lord.

The world is Satan’s dominion. God has allowed him to have it for a season. God has allowed Satan the power to tempt man and try him because for most of us, without temptations and without trials we will not go to God. We will just vegetate and sin the more. We will really go straight to destruction. We will not want God because the flesh desires the things of the flesh and not the things of God. But when things start to burn and start to get uncomfortable and really miserable for us, then our tendency is to look for a way out. We will then (hopefully) look to God, and because He loves us so much He will come to us if we want Him.

Whenever we make our communion with the Lord mandatory, we are not alone anymore in our battle with Satan and the world around us. When we take the time to talk to the Lord, and tell Him our fears of the world intimidating us into thinking like them, the Lord is going to come and strengthen us. He will help us resist their ideas and their beliefs. He will fill us again that we will know in our hearts that He is the only God. We know that there is only one God, Jesus Christ. We know that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life and that no one, no one, goes to the Father except through Him. No one can know God except through Jesus Christ, because Jesus Christ is God, the Father, manifested in the flesh. When we go through Jesus Christ, we will see God, we will see the Father.

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” {John 1:14}

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” {John 14:6}

Some people say we need to get ahead and get modern and accept everyone as having their own gods. So they want the people of the Lord to accept Mother Nature as God, or the “great power of the universe” (without naming Him at all) as God, or worse, the self as God. A lot of us are getting intimidated these days into denying Jesus is God, or to deny that there is only one God, the God of Israel. The world has such a conniption about it, and because of it the people of the Lord who don’t want to offend or to cause any ruckus start to go along with it. They start to say, “Yes, the great power of the universe” or “the great power within you” meaning, it’s really God but we won’t say it.

The world then is full of lies because Satan is it’s father. We cannot rely on it for truth since it’s Satan’s dominion and Satan is the father of lies. Jesus said concerning Satan,

“…He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own, for he is a liar and the father of it.” {John 8:44}

So then when the world starts to say that there is more than one God, do not give in to it. We don’t have to pick a fight with them but we certainly don’t have to agree with them either. Don’t get sucked in to saying, “Yes, the great power of the universe” or whatever. Say it as it is, “God blessed me. God delivered me. Jesus healed me. God did this for me, etc.” God did it, not anybody else. It’s God who gets the glory, give it all to Him. He made the universe, the heavens and the earth, and everything that we see. He made you and me, not us made ourselves. Even the Psalmist knew this was a problem with people he had to write it down and reminded us who is the true God. He tells us,

“Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.” {Psalm 100:3}

The Lord began everything and will end everything. Without Him there is nothing that can exist in this world. He is not just “the great power of the universe.” He is God. He is the God of Israel. He is the great Creator. He is the great I Am. He is God. We know who He is and His name is Jesus. Let’s not deny Him. Let us give Him the glory. Let us acknowledge Him as God, the only God. Not nature, not the “great Power within you”, not the “great Power in the Universe”, but God. Give Him the glory and give Him the praise because He alone is God.

“I am the LORD: that is My name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.” {Isaiah 42:8}

“You shall have no other gods before Me.” {Exodus 20:3}

“That they may know that You alone, whose name is the LORD, Are the Most High over all the earth.” {Psalm 83:18}

“I, even I, am the LORD, And there is no Savior besides Me.” {Isaiah 43:11}

Prayer

Oh Lord Jesus thank You, thank You for Your grace upon me today. You are ever so good and kind and merciful. I can never thank You enough. Jesus, I love You. Thank You, Father for who You are in my life, ever so near and ever so dear to my soul. I give You all the praise and all the glory. I love You, Lord Jesus. Thank You, Father for You.

Lord Jesus, please help me today to stand against the lies of the enemy that tries to deceive me about your oneness. I know there is only You out there who is the God of all, for You have revealed Yourself to me and showed Yourself to me. I know You, because You have let me see You. And I thank You for knowing me. Help me to stay connected to You Father, to Your power and to Your truth so that I will be able to stand against all these lies that come against me in this world. Father, I ask that You will keep me ever so in love with you always. Keep my eyes upon You Lord Jesus. Keep me in Your presence today, I pray, each and everyday. In Your most, wonderful and precious name, Jesus. I thank You, Father. Amen.
