That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. {1 Corinthians 2:5}
We are not alone in this walk with God. Jesus is with us every step of the way. He said He will never leave us nor forsake us. He is faithful until the end. I don’t know if it’s just me, but sometimes I get this feeling that we walk this walk with God trying to please Him with our own strength. Then when we fail because we come across a hurdle or some temptation in our life, we turn to someone else more spiritual than us for comfort and encouragement. We remember our pastor or some spiritual friend and ask them to pray for us. Instead of spending time seeking after God ourselves and finding His strength and comfort, we turn to someone else to help us. It’s not God’s plan for us to turn to someone else when we fail. He wants us to go to Him ourselves. What is He here for? Why did He give us His Holy Spirit if we don’t turn to Him? He doesn’t want us looking to someone else when He’s readily available to us. He didn’t ask us to follow Him and then just leave us alone. He is here for us all the time, every step of the way. He wants us to come to Him and ask Him for help, first and foremost. We need to tell Him our struggles. We need to tell Him what we need in this life. We don’t need anyone else to help us. We just need Him. Every step of the way He is here for us. He didn’t come down to die for our sins so that we on our own efforts can overcome them. He came for this very reason: to help us and save us from our sins. We are not alone. We have Him.
Apostle Paul penned these words:
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. {Philippians 4:13}
Paul found God’s strength through a daily communion with Him. He didn’t go about doing the work of God and walking the Christian life by his own strength. He talked to the Lord. He spent time with Him. Christ was his everything – his very reason for living. He said,
“For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” {Philippians 1:21}
Paul was nothing without Christ. Jesus tells us,
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.” {John 15:5}
This is the only way to make it in this life – by constantly abiding with Jesus through prayer, through study of His word, through fasting and taking time off to be with Him. We are lost and nothing without the Lord. Unless we take the time to be with Him we will never ever make it in this life and overcome. We will never be able to please the Lord. Our own righteousness is like a filthy rag before God’s eyes. This is what the scripture tells us in Isaiah,
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. {Isaiah 64:6}
We can boast all we like about our own righteousness, but at the end of the day the only one that can save us is Jesus Christ. Unless we’re abiding in Him and depending on Him for our righteousness, we are lost. If we could save our own selves from our own sins then Christ wouldn’t have needed to die for us at the cross. But because there is no other way to save ourselves except through Him, He came for us. It doesn’t matter if you’re a scribe that has studied the word of God since you were a child. It doesn’t matter if you grew up in church and think you’re holy and perfect and have obeyed the law of God since you can remember. We all need to depend on the Lord, not upon our own righteousness. It is so crucial to look to Jesus Christ for our own holiness and our own righteousness. We have nothing to speak of compared to God. We could never live up to God’s righteousness and requirement of holiness. We could never save ourselves. We have no power, none whatsoever. We have to look to Jesus Christ for everything, every single day. Jesus tells us,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” {John 14:6}
The Lord wants us to look to Him for everything. He doesn’t want us looking to someone else to save us or even comfort us. He wants us to depend on Him all the time, especially for our comfort. Think about it, if we don’t learn to call on Jesus all the time but look to man for our comfort and strength, how are we ever going to know who He is and how faithful He is? How are we ever going to grow in our relationship with Him? How are we ever going to experience how great His love is for us? If we’re always calling on someone else to come and help us and listen to our woes and problems, instead of crying out to the Lord when we need help, then how are we ever going to find His help? How is He ever going to deliver us? How are we ever going to become great friends with Him? How are we ever going to know who He is if we’re not going to Him all the time? We need to learn to go to Him all the time. We need to spend time with Him, talking to Him, committing our works and our requests and problems to Him. We need to stop looking to the world for our solution we need to look to the Lord.
If we want a great relationship with the Lord and if we want to know if He is true or not, we need to talk to Him. We need to find His help and strength by waiting on Him, abiding in His presence, and talking to Him. That’s what He’s here for. We have to stop looking to our pastor or to our friend that’s more spiritual. We need to look to Jesus. We need to seek Him with all of our hearts and find Him. The Bible tells us He will reward us if we diligently seek after Him. We are not alone in this life. We are not alone in this walk with God. The Lord is always here for us. He told us:
“And you shall seek Me and find Me if you shall search for me with all your heart.” {Jeremiah 29:13}
“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” {John 14:18}
“And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” {Matthew 28:20}
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your great love for me. Thank You that You promised to never ever leave me nor forsake me. Today I can find Your love and acceptance because of Your precious blood. Today I can find Your help and Your strength. Thank You Father. Thank You so much for You.
Lord Jesus, I pray for Your continued grace and mercy upon me today. Please draw me to You. Give me faith in Your great love for me and remember to go to You and not to anyone else to find my comfort and help. You are there for me waiting for me to talk to You. Help me Lord Jesus, to talk to You and find You always. I pray, in Your most wonderful and precious name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
