Be Selfish For Your Soul

{Podcast Version}

If we truly love ourselves we will make sure we are saved. There are no buts and ifs about it. We will fight with every heart and soul and strength we have in this life to be saved. If it means we have to be selfish about our life’s choices, and if it means shunning friends and the lifestyles that snare us away from God, so be it. We love our souls too much to take any chances to be lost. Our souls are too precious to be squandered away when there is just one lifetime. They can call us selfish all they like, but we only have one soul. We only have one life. We must save it at any cost. We know what is coming. We believe what the word of God tells us about heaven and hell and eternity. We are not going to take chances with our soul. Let them call us selfish all they like because we refuse to do what society and people around us would like us to do. When this life is over, our friends and our families, and whoever it is that seems so important in our lives right now will not be standing beside us in the Judgment Seat of Christ to defend us. We alone will stand before God and will be judged. No one is going to be there to speak up for us. Not even our mother who bore us will be there to say all kinds of nice things about us. The only thing that we will have going there for us is the relationship that we nurtured and cultivated with Jesus Christ. That is our only hope. Nothing else will matter but the relationship with Jesus Christ that we have with Him now. Don’t exchange it for anything in the world.

Jesus tells us,

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. {Luke 14:26}

If we value our souls and if we truly love ourselves, we would take the Lord’s admonition and not set our hearts and affections on the things we see in this life. Nothing is going to last, not even the relationships we have that seem to matter so much. Our mother, father, brothers, sisters, friends and relatives and even our spouses and children, you name it. It doesn’t matter who they are. Everything is going to change in heaven. We won’t have the same relationships with them there. There won’t be any father, or mother or husbands and wives or children and best friends. It is all going to change. We will all just be one Bride of Christ. Don’t let anything in this life deter you from going after Jesus Christ and what He has in store for us in eternity with Him. Nothing in this life is worth possessing or coveting so much that we lose out with God in the end. Nothing. Not any of our relationships, not our careers, businesses, money, or our homes and property. Not even our children and husbands and wives. No one and nothing is worth giving up heaven for. Remember the life to come is for eternity. It’s not just until your seventy or eighty years old – it is for eternity. It means there is no end. We cannot take chances. We must, with all of our hearts and souls make heaven our eternal home.

Some might think that hell might not be as bad as what the scriptures make it out to be. They think they will be with their other loved ones and friends who didn’t make it to heaven either, and they can all just party together there. But I have some sad news for those who think that way. According to people who experienced clinical death and had ‘near death experiences’ (NDEs), hell is very real. Their testimonies tell us that you suffer in hell alone. Okay maybe sometimes you are with devils and demons torturing you, but nevertheless you will suffer alone. There will be no one there to fight for you. There will be no one there to commiserate with you. You will be all alone. It wouldn’t be hell otherwise. {See my other blog posts on this topic, “How I Came To Believe In Hell” Part 1 and Part 2}

This saving of our souls is a matter of serious consequence. We have only one lifetime. We only have one soul. We might not even have another chance to do this right. Most NDEs come back with a changed heart and perspective. They will not be taking any chances anymore. They know now not to take another moment to play around with the salvation of their souls. It’s time to get selfish with their goal of eternal life. It’s time to stay focused and make sure the next time they die, they live forever with Jesus Christ. Hell is not a happy place and heaven is more wonderful than anything they have imagined heaven could be. It is beyond description. It is beyond words. It is worth every thing in us to live and fight for.

Be selfish for your soul. It is worth it.

And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. {Matthew 19:29}

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. {Mark 8:35}

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I thank You Father that You love me so much You gave Your life for me at the cross, at Calvary. Without Your precious blood I cannot be saved today. Thank You Father for Your great sacrifice for me. Thank You, with all of my heart.

Lord, save me. Save me and help me to everyday make sure of my salvation with You. Help me to always bring myself to You, open my heart to You, and have You examine it. Father, without You I am lost. Help me to give up everything and anything that gets in the way of my relationship with You. Please provide a way of life for me that I can serve You and love You always until the day I die. Don’t let anyone or anything snare me away from You. Please take them out of my life. I don’t want to take any chances with my soul, Lord. I don’t want to end up in hell and be lost forever in eternity. I want to be saved and be with You forever. Please save me and keep me everyday. I pray this in Your most wonderful and merciful name, Jesus. Thank You, Father. Amen.
